Our friend Thomas Provost

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of a dear friend and Bi/LGBT community member, Thomas/Theo Provost. He was a member of the LA Bi Center planning and AMBI steering committees. He was also a LABL moderator, a past facilitator of the Long Beach Bi Chat Group, and a charter member of Speak Out! Toastmasters. We will take some time to honor his memory and celebrate his contributions at the upcoming Bi Holiday Party this Saturday, December 12th, as well as at the next AMBI social on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010.

Bi Holiday Party

Los Angeles Bi Center,
BiNet USA,
and AMBI invite you to a…

Bi Holiday Party

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

4pm to 9pm

A Celebration of 2009 Bi Community + Events and Goal-Setting for 2010
With Bi/Fluid/Pan Movers & Shakers
@Faith’s Apt in West Hollywood
(info provided upon RSVP)

Agenda

Food will be Ordered (donations accepted)
Introductions
Recognition of 2009 Accomplishments
Brief Brainstorming Session for 2010
Mix-and-Mingle

As you may already know, LA has been brewing with multiple bi social/support communities: AMBI, Bliss Warrior, Bi Men’s Social Network, Biosphere (@ the LA Gay & Lesbian Center), and Bi Chat (@ the Long Beach Center).  Our newly developing Los Angeles Bi Center is the next step, since our mission is to elevate the status of the bi community through educational, cultural, and political outreach.

This gathering is to celebrate all the exciting accomplishments in the bi community in 2009, such as the Los Angeles Bi Center Kickoff, the Bi/Fluid Pride March at LA Pride, and AMBI’s continual success and growth, and to start cooking up plans for 2010!

We are inviting all bi/fluid/pansexual-identified men and women who are passionate about the future of the bi community. That includes: organizers, activists, artists, educators, public speakers, writers, and other rabble-rousers who want to CREATE CHANGE.

Possible future projects:

*Panels at colleges and universities
*Workshops and resources for bi/fluid/pan individuals
*”Bi 101″ trainings for non-bi folks
*Marching at LGBT Pride
*Prop 8 and other legislative action
*Promotion of bi artists, musicians, and writers
*And more!

Please RSVP to Mimi Hoang at DrMimiHoang@gmail.com if you are attending. And if you know of any other bi movers and shakers, please forward this e-mail!

FYI: Parking is PERMIT ONLY in West Hollywood after 7pm, so please make sure you RSVP so we can reserve a permit for you!

Another upcoming event: a “Bi Women’s Night” at GirlBar to celebrate Kyle Schickner’s new “Rose By Any Other Name”
webseries… so come find out more! Sincerely,

Steering Committee

Bisexuals Support the Rev Eric Lee in the face of DISMISSAL

CROSS POSTED AT THEFAYTH.BLOGSPOT.COM AND BINETUSA.BLOGSPOT.COM

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, a civil rights group partly founded by Martin Luther King Jr., has threatened to fire the president of its Los Angeles chapter because he supports same-sex marriage…”I’m not going to let their inaction handcuff me from fighting for justice,” Lee said.LA TIMES

Unfortunately, a founder of SCLC was removed from office for being LGBT, bayard rustin (by _Faith)
Bayard Rustin (see the terrific film on his life, Brother Outsider on LOGO or order it today at rustin.org)

Saddest thing? Even the folks over at jesus-is-sav(i)or.com know Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King Jr. supported LGBT Civil Liberties. Coretta Scott King Supports LGBT Americans! (by _Faith)

So why is THE MESSAGE OF Love and Tolerance still missing from SCLC?

To deny even established leadership the opportunity to redefine injustice and intolerance indicates this group is erring on the wrong side of their OWN history, so please use your voice and speak up in favor of human rights!

Submit a letter of support for Rev. Eric Lee’s involvement in marriage equality visbility on the SCLC website!
http://sclclosangeles.org/contact.htm

LABiCenter.org was recently invited to attend the launch of Rev. Lee’s latest book at a Courage Campaign event. We are SOOOOO there!* As Bisexuals, we easily recognize when equality is ill-defined and not held to the same standard that LOVE should be; open, fair-minded and free.

LA Bi Center Congratulates Bisexual Pride Marchers!

600_9193486

Huge thanks and copious rounds of applause should be directed to Dr. Mimi Hoang and Phillip Harrison for their hard work and dedication in making this happen.

600_9186836

They organized an amazing event and we made a difference!

600_9188174

As we walked, or rather twirled our way down Santa Monica Blvd. there was such support for us, our community and the one love that we all share.  A favorite quote of mine illustrates the point, “If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” – Collective Aboriginal Women Quote
